The speculation about the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
